These Are A Few Things You’ll Find In My Car

(sung to the tune of “Raindrops on Roses” from The Sound of Music)

Dust on the dashboard and licks on the windows,

The smell when you enter reminds you of hobos,

Parents whose standards have sunk down too far,

These are a few things you’ll find in my car.

Booty and craisins and old rotting apples,

A towel for the dog when he’s wet and bedraggled,

An empty Coke can in each cup holder,

These are a few things you’ll find in my car.

Five water bottles but only two children,

To do lists from August of two-thousand and ten,

Band-aids and a CD by Bruno Mars,

These are a few things you’ll find in my car.

When the kids can’t find sunglasses,

Or their winter hats,

I simply remember that they’re in my car,

and then I don’t feel so bad.

Scratches on the door from parking at Target,

Coupons for Q-tips  and a free Hot Pocket,

Papers beneath a melted chocolate bar,

These are a few things you’ll find in my car.

One lonely fruit snack that is orange-flavored,

Small little boxes that held party favors,

A baggie with wrappers from granola bars,

These are a few things you’ll find in my car.

When I can’t find my own wallet,

And I’ve searched like mad,

I simply remember that it’s in my car,

And then I don’t feel so bad.

  1. Who has a guitar? And a voice? We need to record this, pronto. Also, I like it better than the stupid Sound of Music song by 500%.

  4. Lol!
This will be stuck in my head all night now! :) Bonus points for rhyming apples and bedraggled.

    You forgot;
    ‘something unidentified, yellow and sticky,
Stuck on the seatbelt and making it tricky.’

(Or is that just my car? It will probably come off with a baby wipe. They clean anything.)

  5. Well put. I remember keeping my car spotless. After having three daughters. I am lucky if I can see the carpet or make the occasional run to the carwash to spray off the caked on dirt. It is funny how our priorities shift and our kids (legacy) become our priority and the other things fall to the wayside.
